Not the Witch You Wed

Cute little read. I loved all the modern day references, it made me feel like I was already friends with the main character. I enjoyed that there were both healthy and unhealthy family relationships represented!

TLDR: Her cat’s name is Mr. Fancy Pants. Straight to jail.

There is an astonishing amount of cheesiness in this book that I couldn’t get over. A lot of that has to do with the slang the author made up like “hells bells” or “suck a broomstick.” It’s just not for me, and I found myself constantly cringing.

I also found myself skipping paragraphs in areas where the story dragged. Romance books aren’t my thing, but I’m trying them out. Onward and upward.

3.5. This book was like Crescent City Lite. Definitely could have used some good editing for the pacing and the random scenes that didn’t make sense but overall it’s fun and cute.

Cute story, a little more fantasy than I normally go, but really great imagery and characterization.

This was super cute and if you read [b:Witch Please|56233936|Witch Please (Fix-It Witches, #1)|Ann Aguirre|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1612552331l/56233936._SX50_.jpg|87590654] or [b:The Ex Hex|56554626|The Ex Hex (The Ex Hex, #1)|Erin Sterling|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1619305366l/56554626._SY75_.jpg|80304575] and are looking for a similar witch rom com, I would highly suggest this book. This book follows Violet, a magicless witch, and Lincoln, a gorgeous Alpha male (literally, he is a Wolf shifter). The chemistry and tension is STRONG from the very beginning and you can tell throughout the whole book that both of them would risk it all for each other.

Tropes:
- Second Chance Romance
- Fake Dating

The only reason this was not 5 stars for me was because I just wish the steamy scene were longer and more detailed. I just wanted more. Other than that, I have no complaints and I hope the series continues cause I am so ready to read about Rose and especially Olive and Bax.

3.5
lighthearted medium-paced
Plot or Character Driven: A mix
Strong character development: Complicated
Loveable characters: Complicated
Diverse cast of characters: Complicated
Flaws of characters a main focus: Complicated

This was very silly and very fun.

This is a solid introduction to a (hopefully!) series.
The world building is detailed enough without being complicated to understand. Reminded me a little bit of A Discovery of Witches with the counsel issues and modern times.
This is a second chance fake dating romance that I think the author did a great job with. I felt the heat and angst between Violet and Lincoln. They were a fun couple to follow.
I would say this started really slow for my taste. It took me around the 40% mark to get into the story. I also wasn’t a huge fan of the children’s center side plot. I think it took up too much time that could have been devoted to either the romance or Violet learning her powers.
Overall this was a fun paranormal romance and I look forward to reading about Violet’s sisters.

Genre: paranormal romance
Tropes: second-chance romance, fake dating
Read if you like: witches, werewolves, and other supernatural beings, quick and easy fun read

Review: I enjoyed this book but didn’t love it, it was a fun time but I found the story extremely predictable (I wanted to scream at the main characters who didn’t figure things out
