Alright this was pretty fun. I enjoyed the relationship between the leads and world setting. I found the world building to be incredibly interesting. The author placed a lot of faith in the reader by just casually introducing this supernatural world without much explanation and adding new elements as late as the third act, but it honestly really works for this type of book and kind of added to the fun for me. It's a magical read with lots of fun elements and scenes. I wouldn't mind reading a sequel but I'm probably going to take my time returning to this world.

I actually didn’t realize this was a series and read book 3 first and loved it, so I went back to this one. I will say it was cute but book 3 was much better, even not having the background.
medium-paced
This was just fine. Writing was repetitive and uncreative. The story was I guess original to me, not a typical witchy read. However will probably be forgettable.
Violet is a nonmagic (đź‘€) member of a witch family. She is the oldest triplet and therefore would typically be the next Prima (witch ruler I guess? even tho it seems like they are the only witch family left??????? Ok then) however her lack of magic has allowed her to ditch the future title and live under the supernatural radar. Until her sister Rose, Prima-apparent, gets engaged and violet gets forced back in to spooky parties and family obligations.
Here she keeps running into her high school ex Lincoln, who also happens to be a wolfy shapeshifter alpha and is the leader of all North American shapeshifters. They
Haven’t seen each other since Lincoln abandoned her 14 years ago (despite both still living in NYC. Is it really that anonymous there? Oh to not run into classmates from high school every time you went out…). And u know Violet still hates him for it bc he was hexed to not be able to tell her why? Seems like he could have found a way around it or she should have asked more questions but coulda woulda shoulda ya know???
Both Violet and Lincoln are mandated under archaic supernatural law to find a mate ASAP. You know what that means. Fake dating.
Violet hates him at first but the fake dating turns real like instantly. Also surprise! Violet now has magic (why did it take 32 years to manifest? Who knows). And we have to keep it a secret bc I guess the big bad council will want her to marry even sooner if they find out?? Idk author wanted some stakes and there whey are, who cares if they make sense or not.
Don’t think too hard about this one. In a world where supernatural creatures of all types live in harmony with humans yet the world is virtually the same as it is in real life. A sex goddess that is a virgin. A guardian angel who never seems to be guarding anyone but our fmc. A powerful alpha that seems to have no actual power but is instead dictated by a council of elders. What does being an alpha even entail? No idea.
This is fine for a mindless read with a lil spice and a dash of magic but certainly no masterpiece!!
I should also add for my fellow audio book listeners - not great. There was some mouth sounds which always gross me out but what was even worse… the narrator pronounces the H in wh words. Think Stewie on family guy and cool whip. Cool hhhhhhhwip. Awful.
