I didn't expect to cry reading a picture book either, but here we are
Another great bi-lingual Spanish/English picture book.
We learn about Marisol, a little girl who doesn’t care about her clothes matching.
I love these books that are helping me with my speaking Spanish.
Google Translate is a great application where you can read in one language for help with pronunciation.

Marisol is different. She has a different color of hair than her brother, she has a different sense of fashion than the rest of her peers, she has a different way to write her name (half cursive, half print), and a different way to eat her peanut butter and jelly (on a tortilla, not bread). She's one of those kids that follows the beat of her own drum. One day she tries to fit in with everyone else, but her teacher notices that Marisol is just not the same and encourages her to continue to be unique.
A nice book for children to teach about respecting people's differences.

Used this book for a Children's Lit assignment. Loved it!!!
Marisol loves art, color, peanut butter and jelly burritos, and soccer playing pirates, so it is not a surprise when she names her new puppy - kitty. Marisol loves her life and her uniqueness until everyone keeps pointing out how she doesn't match. She wakes up one morning deciding to try to change and spend the day matching. When the art teacher asks her why - she realizes she doesn't really know. A beautiful note from the teacher helps Marisol realize that her uniqueness makes Marisol, Marisol.
What a positively inspiring book celebrating a child's uniqueness. A great story to share with students who are different - especially children from multi-racial backgrounds.

Love this creative girl and I love that the author explains at the end that she wrote this because there are so many multi-racial people around including her.
Fantastic and fun!
Fantastic and fun!
A little girl is told by everyone that she doesn't match. When one kid tells her "you couldn't match if you wanted to!" She sets out to prove him wrong, but doesn't find it much fun. Her teacher gives her a note at the the end of the day saying she is simply marvelous just the way she is.
I rounded up because I love the ending- of course she names her new dog "Kitty."

A little girl who is Scots and Latina, who has clothing that never, ever matches. You have to fall in love with Marisol and her spirit. I picked this book up when I first saw it because it sounded like it might be just like my granddaughter who doesn't match most of the time either. Like my granddaughter, Marisol is true to herself and all the better for it.
