I have had this book on my radar since it originally came out in 2015. I was a big Shane Dawson fan back in the day, and I think he has led an interesting and challenging life. This book is a series of short essays about Shane Dawson's life. The audiobook is actually narrated by Shane Dawson, so if you want to read this in his own voice and punctuated humor, I highly recommend giving it a listen.
Before I say anymore, I do think that a lot of Shane Dawson's humor has not aged well. In the early 2000s, and at the beginning of YouTube, it was very popular to make jokes at other people's expense, so a lot of his, as well as other content creators, content is highly racist, homophobic, and fatphobic (amongst a myriad of other things). Shane Dawson is the king of a self-deprecating joke and creating problematic content. With that in mind, I do think he as a person has taken steps in recent years to atone for his poor judgment in his youth. But this book is rife with content that is likely offensive to certain communities.
This book is by no means a literary masterpiece, but it was fun to read and fun to be nostalgic for a different time on YouTube.
If I had read this seven years ago, I probably would have enjoyed it more, but in today's world, this book does not hold up.
