I’ve always loved a murder mystery, and having set it in the world of The Great Gatsby was an interesting premise. This is set in an alternative narrative, I guess, where our FMC is Jay Gatsby’s younger sister Greta, and she takes it upon herself to solve a murder that happens at Jay’s infamous mansion.

I haven’t read The Great Gatsby (I’ve only watched the movie), so I don’t know the characters all that well, but all the main players are in this, and I’m assuming they have retained their characteristics from the original novel.

Our FMC, Greta, has just finished school and wants to spend time with her brother, and at times yearns for the version of him before he got wealthy. She’s modern and idealistic for the time, and throughout the book, we see that her thoughts and ideas are challenged by interacting with people from different social classes. Her journey felt more like the point of the story rather than the murder.

In any classic murder mystery, there are a few red herrings, but in the end, I didn’t find the discovery too shocking. I didn’t feel like I was on the edge of my seat, which is something I really wanted with a book like this.

don't hate it, don't love it. this was an enjoyable murder mystery fan fic esque take on the great gatsby. easy read with a good plot. i didn't care for the big reveal and the long ass confession tbh. i did like that the original characters were kept true to how they were originally created
