I love this book but sometimes I wanted to see more of Karla and Paulo’s story

I like his way of writing: easy, touching and thought provoking. But where the alchemist felt important this books seemed to miss that last bit of fulfillment or insight. Definitely a good read but I felt like it missed something in the end.

At some point in our life, we had thought of leaving everythg behind and going to the mountains for good or travel around the world without any destination in our mind.
Paulo decides to do so after college and travels across latin america. Looking forward to Europe he lands in amsterdam (the so called centre of the earth). His plans change once he meet karla.

As i picked this book after reading the blurb, i was looking forward to his adventures in the himalayas, the cultural explosion of Indian sub-continent but the story reveals itself saying, its about the journey and not the destination, the beauty lies in unpredictability and not in perfection.
Paulo doesn't define who a hippie is nor argues with the definition that the world imposes on them. His meaning of who a hippie is is spread across the book in words and sentences. Its all about identifying oneself, love, moving forward, sailing through life's situations, learning those tickles once mind and explore those fascinate once zeal.

This is the 2nd Paulo Coelho book I've read. I was able to relate to the characters at times, so going through their stories I've learned a thing or two.I also found the beginning of the book pretty interesting and informative.

Now I've read some of the reviews , and I noticed some people complaining or simply stating that some of the back stories, whether those of the main or secondary characters, and events were unnecessary or not serving the story. However, I don't believe the writer would provide us with these lines or backstories for the sake of filling the pages. Despite the fact that I could relate to this complaint sometimes, I would always put in mind the reader has a reason behind that. This made me go back at times, and I was able to either find the link between them or just figure out whatever benefit to the story they provide.

Another thing I noticed, was the '' I feel the story ended at a time where the characters were still undeveloped '' critique. Now everyone who's finished this book, realized at some point that it evolves around Karla who falls in love with Paulo, someone she admits would not usually go for. Taking this into consideration with the fact that the author is sharing his personal experience, and the fact that Karla was aware of her not being able to love, which is linked with her unawareness of all she's blessed with, I believe the ending was fulfilling. There is nothing more we need to know. Paulo's presence in her life has contributed to a solution, an enlightenment.

At the end, Karla was not only able to free herself and show her love to Paulo as a lover, it was a much greater love filled with appreciation, inner peace and self satisfaction. Karla also learned how to love herself and find joy in her life. It's that turning point in her life that matters most, it was a beginning of a new journey for her even without Paulo being a part of it.

I loved the way Paulo expressed his emotions in Hippie. It's so raw and gives you full insight of what was happening in the hippie era like it takes you right there in the Magic Bus! At least it was for me.
