Very funny! Ending sort of pulls a Deus Ex Machina, but such is the nature of a comedy, I suppose!

Had the great pleasure of finally seeing a production of Tartuffe at the college I teach for and while I've read this play more than once for teaching world literature--it's impressive to see that watching a religious hypcrocite's downfall never gets old...especially when it is played for laughs.
J'ai passe une agréable lecture. Un peu compliquée par moments, mais c'est sans doute parce que je n'ai pas l'habitude de lire des pièces de théâtre.
Etwas schwacher Schluss, ansonsten fantastisch kurzweilig!

I listened to a full cast audio version of Tartuffe and I was impressed and frequently laughing out loud. The actors/readers were so good at expressing what could have been sing-song poetry in a way that kept the story flowing right along that it took me a while to realize it all rhymed. I can see how the religious controversy surrounding the book could arise in the time period in which it was written, but it was pretty mild by today’s standards. The banter between the daughter and her “real boyfriend” when being potentially thwarted by the “arranged marriage” and the scene when the wife makes Orgon hide were my two favorite parts of the comedy. I highly recommend listening to this one to catch the flavor of the humor and the professionals’ abilities when speaking the poetic lines.
