In her autobiography, Christie talks about this novel disparagingly. I don't remember precisely what she said, but she found it unsatisfactory, even years after it was published. I have to disagree; this is a fine example of Christie's work. It does have a peculiar scene at the end which doesn't seem to be necessary because it doesn't reveal anything new

--the scene in which Poirot, having gathered the principles, including the murderer, runs around and re-enacts the murder, including the journey on the Blue Train--

; however, the plot is clever and the characters are interesting and, as always, she plays totally fair: if you are really paying attention, you can pick up all the clues that reveal whodunnit before the reveal at the end.
