This was an excellent mystery. Agatha does a great job with murders on trains! I had suspected who the killer was, but as always, the reveal had me surprised. Poirot wasn't as annoying in this one, so hooray!

Blue train, red jewels, gray eyes! The character of Caroline, a young woman who has inherited money from a woman she was taking care of, who then must fend off greedy extended family as she gets mixed up in a murder investigation with Poirot, felt like it could have been partial inspiration for Knives Out. I really loved the multiple perspectives and the connection between Poirot and Caroline, but felt that the ending was unsatisfyingly impersonal, given all of the rich, messy connections among the cast of characters.

Had no idea who the murdered was until the end.
I'm a huge Christie fan, but this one wasn't as strong for me. You could see the "seams" of the mystery more clearly than most of her works, which are usually tied up so neatly.
