Nejsem si jistá, zda se dokážu nějak srozumitelně vyjádřit. Tahle kniha byla pohlazení po duši. Moc se toho neděje, ale je tu plno vývoje postav. A to jak autorka popisuje tajemnou zahradu... Klidně bych si přečetla 500 stran jen o popisu té zahrady. A ten konec byl nádherný, rozbrečel mě, tolik emocí.
I read this when I was a child and watched the movie versions too. I read it again now as part of a book club read and was excited. I have deducted some points of thr racist comments, my gosh, didn't realise those as a child but I guess its the time it was set/written. کتاب معمولی ولی در عین حال دل‌نشین و ساده‌ای بود. به نظرم درک می‌کنم که چه‌طور این‌همه سال محبوب بوده. بعضی بخش‌هاش واقعا آرامش‌بخش بود.
ولی خب بعضی چیزهاش هم آزارنده بود دیگه... نژادپرستی، تاکید مداوم روی این‌که لاغر بودن با زشت بودن و بدخلق بودن و عدم سلامتی همراهه، چیزهایی از این دست. یا مثلا اون حد از تاکید روی معجزه و تلقین و غیره... نمی‌دونم روی یک کودک چه تاثیری می‌تونه داشته باشه. آیا ناامید نمی‌شه اگر ببینه هی داره آواز می‌خونه و تلاش می‌کنه و زحمت می‌کشه ولی معجزه‌ای که توی کتاب ازش صحبت شده، اتفاق نمی‌افته؟

I find it beautiful that the name of the wife is revealed in the last chapter. It is a book aimed at children so I understand why it might not be on a hit list for adults, I myself would not have gone for it had I known perhaps. Mrs Sowbery is definitely a magic person and so is her son Dickon.
I vividly remember watching ‘The Secret Garden’ movie as a child and loving it. I decided to read this enchanting story to my children. I did find this more challenging than I expected. This wasn’t only due to the fact that I didn’t inherit my mums Yorkshire accent from her childhood growing up there.
I also found the sentences didn’t flow very easily and I often found myself struggling to read the very long sentences aloud. My daughter started to lose interest a bit by the end (maybe due to that lack of Yorkshire accent) but she also kept asking me to repeat certain parts or ask what was happening.
This made for a slightly less enjoyable reading experience.
