I've only watched the movie, so maybe this is better....

The character development was great! I really loved the story for that. We started this as a read aloud and eventually switch to audio because the Yorkshire dialect was difficult to read. Once we switch to audio, it was better. It took a while to get through though because once the kids find the secret garden, there isn’t much suspense and the story drags a bit.
