I first read this book back when I was in high school in my native language (Spanish) and I absolutely loved it. I reread it recently in English and found it to be just as good. However, it was a much more critical read this time. Partly because many parts of it are written in a traditional English manner that makes it very hard if you're not aware of old English vocabulary, even if you're a fluent English speaker.
Additionally, I found this book to be a tad too dramatic. This, of course, aligns with the expectations and behavior of the time in which it was written, but at the same time, there is a point where I stopped feeling guilty for the characters after they made one bad decision after another, as well as Heathcliff, whom I found to be just plain evil this time.
Still, a classic not to be missed.

Very affecting book. Still, I couldn't shake the naggy feeling that the timing of the deaths were a bit too convenient for the plot.

This work sticks out like a crass thumb among the entire Victorian tradition. No 19th century novel I have read even comes close to the cruelty mixed with antiquated Gothic setting that Bronte has written. The passion between Heathcliff and Catherine is one for the ages, bitter and all-consuming.
