I was at first put off this book by the less than attractive representation of the gods. Once I realized that the book wasn’t at all about the gods and more about the love story of the mortals I fell in love with it. It’s fluff but it’s an extremely sweet story that I enjoyed more the more I read.

Years ago, I was going through my Greek gods phase (once again, because it comes around once every 10 years or so) and got this book as a result. Years later, I kind of regret it.
I adore the idea of the old gods brought into a modern setting. It's basically what my fanfiction loving heart lives for. It's the premise of a good plot. Nothing wrong up until now - but the way it's been done? Not a fan? The writing is also very simplistic, and while that means it's easier to get through the pages, I was, once again, not a fan. I didn't like any of the characters, because everything felt too rushed to get to truly liking any of them. Everything else was equally as rushed.

Funny. Phillips has fun belittling their “areas of expertise” & the gods get their comeuppance as the world loses its belief.

This was a DELIGHT. Very funny, clever concept, sweet, and moments of profundity dropped in for good measure. (A brief reflection on being corporal was extraordinary.) Full disclosure - Marie is a dear friend, but my joy for this delightful read would remain were that not the case!

A great concept and plot, but slow and wordy.

Ugh. Bad imitation of Neil Gaiman's writing. Not clever. Couldn't even finish this. I'm done.
