The first book of this series is great. Explains background information and has maps clearly developing the stories setting. I enjoy the humor in it and also its fight /dramatic scenes. The visuals are great.
The only thing is that sometimes the translations feel a bit unreal like they try to add modern slang into it kind of a turn off and stops the flow of the dialogue but overall a great start can't wait to purchase the 2nd book.

The least gory out of the lot, making this my favourite book in the series by a mile ...

Meh.
Those are my thoughts. This is often cited as the ultimate graphic novel experience, and maybe I need to read more of the books to gain an appreciation, but I found this to be a bit disappointing. Potty humor and big breasted women abound in this story of Buddha's birth. Not that I can't appreciate the hilarity of a well-placed piss joke, but it just didn't seem to fit here. That being said, I'd read #2 in a heartbeat.
