I knew I was going to give this book a 5 star rating as I read and the author’s note at the end confirmed the 5 stars. This is an eye opening story about race first and foremost. It’s also highlights how important it is to support a child’s dream and that sometimes you only need one person to believe in you. I simply loved it.

Fantastic book. More than a thriller, this is a coming-of-age story with heart. As someone with a music background, I appreciated Slocum’s knowledge of his subject, and his descriptions of the music performances made me feel like I was in the audience.

Loved this book. Showcases an importance of music for all and how valuable a family legacy can be.
Although I enjoyed the book and appreciate highlighting and exploring the challenges BIPOC individuals experience performing in the arts, some character development gaps detracted from the story for me. Overall, I'd still recommend it.
Wow, one of my favorite reads of the year. A little bit of suspense mixed with classical music. Highly recommend!!!
