adventurous mysterious medium-paced

This book was really more a 2.5 star book. While the story really had promise, the execution wasn’t there. The one dimensional characters are simply “good” or “bad,” there is no nuance, conflict, or humanness to them. Mom, aunts and uncles, the Marks family = bad. Grandma Nora, Ray, Janice = good. An entire book about Ray and I know nothing more about him than he plays the violin. The mystery isn’t much of a mystery at all and the author does a lot more telling than showing.

Much more than a thriller

I could not stop reading. It is much more than a whodunit. It's an underdog story, a view into the scourge of racism and the power of mentors.

I am now going to look for the playlist to this novel.
