A quick read and page turner! Enjoyed the mystery, the story and challenged by the author’s true life experience with racism that is woven throughout this book.
This book is just cool. The mystery of the stolen violin is engaging just in a pretty typical way but the details of the family dynamics and violin details and the historical fiction details all make this book extra engaging and memorable. Really excellent book!

Graphic depictions of racism and violence against enslaved people.
Ok mystery. Way more musically involved so someone without music may be bored. There were plenty of parts I skipped by.
This was so so good. It would be a great movie, the characters were great. I found the end to being a little too fast and a bit of a let down though

I was so excited for this book to be published, and so disappointed after reading it. The pace of the book was too slow and the ending was predictable.

A unique well-written mystery. A bit slow moving, and I didn't totally love the ending.

I see this labelled as a thriller but I feel the pace is too slow for that assessment. I found Ray's journey interesting, I feel that was the main focus. The theft of the violin was just something to drive the plot.
Loved it! So unique- great thriller pacing with lots of heart and a great story.
