I am reading through the series, and this one threw me off. My primary motivation for finishing the book was to find out who Angel was; after that, I did not care for how it ended—with that said, I am not within the target audience's age range. So, it is understandable that I was not into the high school energy.

Pretty standard stuff -- tweeny bopper paranormal romance, relatively minimal violence and no sex to speak of. Not great literature, but not dreadful. Fine for in-the-car listening-- memorable enough that when I listen to the next book in the series I remember the basics from previous ones, but not memorable enough for me to be able to write an individual review for each book months after I listened to them.

Not quite done with this one yet but I've realized that this is the one Night World book I haven't read yet. All of the others I've read at least once.

6/20/2012 Part A - So far my one major problem with this installment is that it's not until half way through the book that the Night World is mentioned. Since this is a Night World book I have an issue with that. Not much happens in this first half either. It's mostly Gillian, with her guardian angel, Angel, changing her image and becoming a part of the popular crowd. That's all I have right now, but I'll finish my review once I finish the book.

6/20/2012 Part B - Well I finished it and this one was a bit disappointing. There wasn't much of the Night World in this installment. Half of the book was devoted to Gillian changing her image and getting popular. The last half was more interesting but we're kind of left hanging on a couple of things. Gary (Angel), mentioned that Daryl had a secret, but we never find out what it is. There's a story line with Gillian's mother that doesn't get completely resolved. Hopefully these threads will be mentioned/touched in the other books.

Overall this was ok and I'd recommend it if you want to read all of them but this one doesn't really add anything new to the world. If I remember correctly the next one is better.

Hard to review this one. There wasn't anything worng with it, I just didn't really enjoy it. These books are all romance based, atleast so far and in all the others I've wanted the relationships to succeed, not so much in this book. ||Angel was clearly dodgy right from the get go and I wasn't all that convinced with that mini redemption either||. ||As for David, Soulmates? Really? he literally never even noticed her before angel had her flaunting her body and wearing makeup, seems iffy to me||. Like I said though there is nothing strictly wrong with this book, it just didn't appeal to me. It was nice to see Ash make a brief appearance in this one. I am interested to see what the next story is.

Re-reading this after 10 years, I have a new soft spot for Gillian. Sure, her and David's story was THE LEAST interesting soulmate couple story in the entire Night World series, but I loved the twists and turns the plot took, and actually realized that out of all the other FMCs in the previous Night World books, Gillian has the most character development.

Also, I think it's pretty clear L. J. Smith favors Ash Redfern. His cameo was EVERYTHING in this book.

"After a near death experience, Gillian returns to her body accompanied by an angel who helped her come back. An invisible guardian that only Gillian can see, he helps her achieve the popularity she has always yearned for. But then, Angel begins to make bizarre demands. At last, Gillian must face the terrifying question: What kind of being has she brought back from the Other Side?" (From Amazon)

A great paranormal romance series. For fans of Twilight and Christopher Pike.
