This book was amazing. They way it was written was gorgeous and so engaging. The imagery was beautiful and it was a such a faithful continuation of Forester's story. You could tell William di Canzio loves Maurice and wanted to do it justice. I feel that they did. If I'm going to be honest, I kind of prefer this to Maurice, but don't tell anyone.

And now we shan’t be parted no more, and that’s finished.

Che magari è pure plausibile però a me è sembrato veramente troppo improbabile.
L'autore è riuscito a metterci pure l'insta-love patetico.

i am very proud that the first book i finished this year was *not* a book for a class. i don’t think that’s happened in a while. i enjoyed this book as a retelling/expansion on forster’s maurice. the section dedicated to alec’s perspective on the plot of maurice was actually quite short which i think was to the benefit of the book. more time was put into expanding on alec’s life before and after. i really enjoyed the portrayal of alec generally in the book too, it felt like a natural expansion from the source material. my only complaint would be that the wwi did drag a little for me, but the ending made up for it. overall really enjoyable first read that makes me want to reread maurice and rewatch the film.

In my opinion, a more perfect continuation/sequel of Maurice would be impossible. I LOVED this book. Quite possibly my new favourite book, along with Maurice. I’m emotional

William di Canzio’s ALEC is an inspired tribute to E.M. Forster’s iconic gay novel, MAURICE (1971). In it, di Canzio gives the two lovers—Alec and Maurice—not only riveting back stories, but a beautifully articulated origin for their romance, all of which is wrapped up in the historical context of World War I, which was such a monumental time for Forster himself.
