A solid conclusion to the series. The main shortcomings were the lack of a real twist (I’d been hoping Kaji was the Alagai Ka, and that there would be more revealed about Kaji’s journey to the core - perhaps the topic of another series/book?). Overall, it felt like a safe way to finish the series, but not one that surprised or amazed the reader. I think a flashback-style would have helped here, with Arlen, Jardir, and Renna traveling to the core amidst flashbacks to Kaji’s experiences.

Overall, nothing amazing, but if you’ve reached book 4, this was an adequately satisfying conclusion.

"Maybe there's a Creator, after all...just been looking for Him in the wrong place."

I had read the first four of the [b:The Demon Cycle 5-Book Bundle: The Warded Man, The Desert Spear, The Daylight War, The Skull Throne, The Core|53549310|The Demon Cycle 5-Book Bundle The Warded Man, The Desert Spear, The Daylight War, The Skull Throne, The Core|Peter V. Because I had read these all as mass markets, I decided to wait for The Core to also be released as a mass market to preserve the format of my collection.

So I return to this series almost 8 years later ready to jump into this very richly developed series, hoping that my transition back into it is smooth (lol). Thank Kaji this series comes with a detailed appendix!

The Demon cycle has always been a multi-layered series, a three tentpole-circus blending action-horror-fantasy with politics and religion. And when I say "blending", I mean in such a way that the story has always proceeded with all three pillars, right from beginning in The Warded Man.

The action is fantastic here, and there are so many surprises awaiting you
Spoiler especially the conclusion of the Abban/Hassik storyline, WOW did I shiver with excitement when you are introduced to the Abban-mimic!

This is definitely the best book in the series. Was it worth reading 3000 pages of meh to build up to the good part? I'm not convinced.

A beautiful conclusion to a beautiful set of 5 books. I'm glad it wasn't so final as it was rumored to be, but still a satisfying conclusion to Arlen's arc.

Great end to the series!

Can't wait to see what the author chooses to do next.
