Maybe it's because I listened to this rather than read it, but this didn't pull me in. While the prose was lyrical & a mute MC gave it a unique "voice", I didn't connect with the story or character at all. It just fell flat. The plot was simultaneously complex with woven layers & lacking development. Almost happened for half the book. However, the song was atmospheric. The "gothic horror" aspect reminded me of Coraline x Secret Garden x Locke & Key, so there was a lot of potential. I might have to go back and actually read the book to get more out of it, but overall 3 stars.
