Men are horrible to women, and women put up with it. The whole book. And then there's a half-hearted smothering? It's like Follett picked a time period that's widely considered barbaric so that he could get away with pouring every depravity he could imagine into it.

Also, he should maybe watch a video on how women's bodies work.

I have thoroughly enjoyed the entire King's Bridge series, and this one was no different. It took me a bit to get into it, but once I did, I couldn't put it down.

It's your classic Ken Follet book. The bad are really bad, the hero is really good but characters are well defined and the story is really interesting. All in all, a good read if you want to travel back in time to early medieval Britain.

“And that would be sufficient, if we lived in a world that was ruled by laws.” Aldred sat on a stool, leaned forward, and spoke quietly. “But the man matters more than the law, as you know.”

This book was AMAZING. Starting in 997 CE it follows 3 main characters through the dark ages. The characters are so detailed and I loved Edgar, Aldred and Ragna and will miss reading about them. The good vs evil power battles was so immense sometimes I found myself psychically angry at the book and injustices good characters had suffered through. True historical escapism just felt like a movie playing in my head.

Another great addition to Kingsbridge series! Again, the author has created vivid characters and appealing story. John Lee's performance is unsurprisingly beyond my expectation. I have to pause one day to save the book and continued to listen to it again, otherwise, I figure I would finish the book in one sitting. Reading/listening this book causes my desire to re-read Kingsbridge series again!

This is not a good book.
No, it is a bad book.
Maybe even a terrible book.
It's 900 pages of pure trash. Often surprisingly horny trash.
That said, I burned through 900 pages in like 30 hours so clearly I enjoyed it.
