This one isn't as good as the first and it painfully takes you away from the story you want to be reading about. But stick with it! The next book will bring you back in!!

I didn't love this as much as the first. There was a point in the middle that I was dying for it to finish already!! But I'm very glad I got through it because it was good, and now I'm ready to watch the second season of the TV series to see any differences.

I love the characters and the plot and the dialogue but the middle of this book had me dozing a bit. Maybe it's due to the fact that I've seen the show and therefor know what will happen? Or maybe because the politics wen't over my head a bit at times. Still a great book but not nearly as enthralling as Outlander.

The last 200 pages were amazing. Definitely some slower parts in the middle, but great continuation of this story!

Claire and Jamie could rule the world together❤️ Love that they can face the worst possible situations and STILL come back from them, open up to each other, and grow closer. Enjoyed getting to see the time travel a bit more. Curious how that will play a part in the next several books.

This was as entertaining and emotional and violent as the first book but ultimately started and ended without much progress, despite being >700 pages. That said, Gabaldon’s writing is lovely and immersive and I’m looking forward to the rest of the series.

Ugh!! Such a BORING book. I loved Outlander, but the sequel was just so dry and historical. Now that Claire and Jamie are together, the driving tension/suspense of book 1 is gone. The 2nd book was this very odd "I love you more," "No, I love YOU more" banter and it was like I was somehow a 3rd wheel (even though I'm the reader!!!). There was also a large political espionage sub-plot which I wasnt interested in. To be honest, I was really only interested in Outlander because of Claire and Jamie's romance, but since theyre together, the slow-burn tension is gone. What little romance there was was very forced and not as natural as it was in Outlander. We get it: youre in love. You dont have to be so mushy! I was forcing myself to read the book, hoping it got better--- it didn't. Unfortunately, I prematurely purchased the entire series, so it's a bit disappointing that it's a DNF. But, this is a lesson in not buying a whole series just because book 1 is good. I hate not finishing a series (especially on book 2 of 9), but it was SO DRY!! The aspects of Outlander that I loved were missing from Dragonfly in Amber, so I was pretty bored. Most of the book (and I got pretty far before I called it quits) held as much interest for me as a biography. I don't care for the long-winded political sub-plot.
My type-A personality was like, "just keep reading. You have to finish it," and that's when I figured that FORCING myself to read a book makes reading for fun (which I very much enjoy) not so fun. So, in the end, Dragonfly in Amber is a DNF for me :(
