this was truly incredible.
i haven’t had an actual good read in a while and this surprised me in the best way.

i literally love all the characters, they’re all different and unique in their own ways and ofc love all the LGBTQ rep <3

despite the magic system being super complicated, it’s explained very well, which i’m thankful for because i have a very hard time understanding stuff like that 😭

the last 100 pages. when i tell you i was fucking screaming and falling out of my reading chair, i’m being 100% serious. it was literally one thing after another, i couldn’t keep up, honestly.
the ending. the last chapter. BITCH. I CAN’T DO THIS ANYMORE. THE PAIN. it’s the chosen one trope gone wrong & on crack, dare i say.

A fairly simple good vs. evil story with incredibly dark undercurrents. Given that it reads like a YA fantasy and the target audience can reasonably be expected to be in their late teens, I have to question some of the author's choices, like a young girl looking forward to marrying a much older lord in an arranged marriage and being proud of being a good, well-mannered lady, because she it her duty to be his demure wife thankful for whatever he does to her. There was a similarly creepy scene at the very end, which reminded me that this book is written by the author of 'The Captive Prince'.
