The In Between is a delicious little novel about grief, love, and learning to let go. I don't support the premise of communicating with the dead, but it was still an interesting concept (one that I choose to enjoy in a more allegorical sense).

What I Liked:
• Tessa's struggle to believe that she is lovable. I think this is a very human thing to struggle with...and the author portrayed that struggle in a really beautiful way.
• Mel and Vickie. Obviously they aren't perfect people, but they really love Tessa and it was nice to see how they're relationship with her progressed over the course of the story.
• Tessa's bestie, Shannon. Everyone needs a Shannon. Shannon was the best. #westanshannon
• The photography. I LOVED this part of the story so so much. Tessa as a photographer felt so right and her pictures were just *chef's kiss*
• Skylar? Idk, I have mixed feelings about him. On one hand, I really like him. But on the other hand, I can't actually tell you why I like him, so...do with that what you will.

What I Disliked:
• The communicating with the dead (but I knew that was gonna be a thing going into the book).
• How casually the teenage characters hooked up. Like, there were literally no consequences or repercussions for that, which I generally dislike because it could be seen as encouraging that kind of behavior, which I'm against outside of marriage.
• The insta-love vibes. Skylar and Tessa's relationship escalated so fast that it was hard for me to believe that they could really fall in love that fast. I eventually gave in and accepted it and that increased my enjoyment, but it was still really fast.

Overall, it was a fun summer read that delved into some really difficult topics in a way that was (mostly) enjoyable.

The content of these scenes include an attempted séance, interactions with an unofficial medium, the use of a planchette, scrying, after-death communications (ADCs), a brief mention of minghuns, and short discussions of reincarnation.
