It was too predictable for me, but I mostly enjoyed the cast of characters.

I had previously read Hidden and Malicious, which are Mitchum books 1 and 2 when they were released as BookShots. The River Murders puts those 2 books, along with a new installment, Malevolent, into one book.
I really didn’t care for Malevolent at all. It starts when Mitchum’s mother is hit by a SUV. Then, Alicia, Mitchum’s love interest, has her apartment explode. Mitchum discovers that the person behind this is the man he thought was in prison for what happened in an earlier Mitchum story. This book takes Mitchum to Afghanistan to track down the man. The latest installment didn’t do anything for me, I just couldn’t wait for it to end.

Hidden-3 stars
Another fast paced BookShots! Mitchum's 14 year-old cousin, Bailey Mae, has disappeared. Mitchum's search for her leads to a hidden camp where several people are held prisoner. Mitchum's unlikely helper in this search is his drug dealing brother. This is the first in the series with Mitchum as the main character, also known as the unofficial town private detective.

Malicious-3 stars
A very quick read, but a little too neatly wrapped up. Mitchum has to find out who killed a drug dealer, and determine if his brother did it.

This book...sucked. Majorly. Why were there 3 parts with yhe middle story being so unnecessary?
This entire book is just a preteen boys fantasy of his future self. A big, scary man who can do whatever he wants because people are scared of him. Assaulting strangers, breaking and entering, punching your brother just because you don't like what he's saying. And let's not forget how often the main character had to make it known that he hated his brother's career as a drug dealer. You're a navy seals dropout who delivers papers, no one cares about your approval.
If you need more proof that this is just a child in a man's body, how about the fact that he got jealous because his girlfriend sat next to his brother in a restaurant instead of him? Or that he stood her up for a date because of his stupid revenge plot, and then flew across the country without a single thought toward talking to her about it. And still had the nerve to bee upset at the thought of her getting with his brother. You can't be possessive AND stupid, it doesn't work out well.
I have no clue why I made myself read this whole thing, but this book is so unrealistic in a way that even fiction should never be.

I was surprisingly disappointed by this book. I am a huge James Patterson fan, and have loved everyone of his books that I have read up until this one. I honestly found the book boring, underdeveloped, and predictable. Three things that James Patterson novels are usually not. Would not recommend reading this book, it felt like a waste of time.
