Oh, bless Aubree's heart. I love her! And I love the throwback to a visit to Canoodle! I love Canoodle and Almond Bay! This book made me laugh and cry. And I liked it probably a little more than Hattie's story, but not by much.

This book is a small-town, slow-burn romance with all the charm, wit, and heartache you could ask for.

Wyatt is a murder mystery author recently left at the altar. Aubree is a grumpy potato farmer with no time for nonsense. The only thing they have in common? They both inherited half of the same farm—and share custody of their sassy, lovable niece, Mac.

When Wyatt’s grandfather offers up the family cabin to whichever grandson marries first, Wyatt makes a wild proposal: if Aubree agrees to a one-year marriage of convenience, he’ll sign over his half of the farm to her.

What starts as a strategic arrangement quickly turns into forced proximity chaos, with Wyatt moving in and slowly breaking down Aubree’s prickly walls.

Cue the slow-burn romance, emotional moments, laugh-out-loud banter, and a love story that sneaks up on them both. This one will make you laugh, cry, and absolutely fall for these characters. It’s a slow burn, but every page is worth it.

I didn’t like Aubree in the first half of TWIHH, but in this book I learned why she was closed off and cold. My heart went out to her dealing with all the trauma from her father and others that scarred her, with Cassidy’s death on top of all that. But like Wyatt observed, her personality might have been guarded, but real and authentic; she had character and ambition.

The banter was entertaining. I haven’t read many books with a sunshiny guy and grumpy girl, and I’d really like to see more. The sarcasm and sass were a source of laughs, but there was a more serious side as we got to see Wyatt break through Aubree’s walls.

I liked Wyatt right away. He wasn’t perfect, but nobody is. He had his faults, and there were different approaches he could’ve taken. But what I really liked about him was how understanding and patient he was, the lengths he took to make sure Aubree realized her worth. I came to realize that they bonded over losing siblings and wanting to keep their treasured places (the farm for her, the cabin for him) close.

Reverse grumpy sunshine always hits for me. I don't care, it's an immediate 5☆ especially if the banter is bantering.

Definitely Gilmore Girls vibes with the small-town feels with this series. Everyone is connected and involved. ♡

"Usually in books, the man is the grumpy one and the girl is the sunshine in the relationship. People love a grumpy hero and a female who can bring him to his knees. Aubree and I would be the reverse version. She’s grumpy, and I’m sunshine, but she’s still the one bringing me to my knees. Every fucking day." ♡
