Liked the writing and narration. The topics stayed somewhat surface level. The end turned into a textbook or philosophical exercise. It was like the first 3/4 was saying, "Ewwww isn't this wild?" and the last 1/4 was about the future of the funeral industry and how we do/should/could view mortality. It was ok. I also added a few trigger warnings to larger bodies. I thought the scene felt a little (more accurately "moderately") judgey/predatory.

I really enjoyed learning abt the inner workings or the mortuary world, and would probably read more it given the chance. However, I realized while listening to the audiobook that I don’t like how miss ask a mortician speaks about certain topics. Those things might have changed since this book is nearly a decade old, but it just irked me a bit. Idk.

Very intriguing, well written book. Pretty graphic but not for shock value. Caitlin writes about death and the things that she saw working in a crematory in a very matter of fact way that made it so interesting to learn about. Weaving in historical pieces on death practices in different cultures and throughout history was fascinating too.

There was a pretty abrupt and random chapter with some, in my opinion, unnecessary fatphobic themes, but other than that I really enjoyed the process of reading this book and thinking about death myself.
