v intense and emotional and I loved the journey Leanne went through and I also loved miles and just in general the characters and their arcs were rlly good and every nuance of this situation was explored and also incredibly well handled.
The only thing I didn't like is it kinda felt and was hinted at leading up to like a big revealy twist ending and there wasn't really one so it felt kinda anticlimactic but uno other than that.
Also Leanne the mc is ace and I think that is wonderfully explored yet doesn't take over her whole arc or anything.

Oof. On the hand, reading this a month or so after Uvalde was really hard. On the other hand, it was a bit cringe that it was such a direct lift of the Columbine situation. While the subject matter was handled well and I felt that the teenagers were pretty accurately depicted - especially Lee's intermittent anger / impatience with her mom after Lee survived a school shooting. The rest I found a bit too YA / juvenile for my taste - the subject matter was there and the characters were largely there but it just didn't do it for me. I felt like the author could have done more with it.
⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 for my first read of 2019. Three years after a horrific shooting left nine dead in a small Indiana high school, one victim’s parents are planning to publish her story. There is one small problem though: the version of events that the public knows isn’t what happened. Lee, the main character, does not feel right about letting her best friend’s legacy live on in error; however, the only other person with them in the bathroom that day has disappeared from their town. As Lee and the other survivors reflect on that day, they have to decide whether to leave things alone or dredge up more pain from the past. The ending was a letdown for me, but I think the topic is timely and high school readers will fly through it. It’s certainly a topic that is on my mind daily as an educator.

I do not recommend this book if you are looking for a social justice leaning plot. This is emotional and reads like 13 Reasons Why.
A good read. Didn't get attached to any characters. Don't think I would re-read. But definitely for others, it's an easy read to pass the time.
Deals with a trauma situation so maybe not for everyone.
