Wow. Just wow. This series is rivaling Saga and X-Men Red for my favorite series right now. It is gorgeous to look at, deep and complex, and the characters keep evolving in ways I did not anticipate. Liu and Takeda continue to hit it out of the park with this volume.
I love the art in this series. It's dark and gruesome and compelling and intoxicating.
The third volume Meika Halfwolf makes her way to Pontus, where she uncovers more about her past and her relation to the Shaman-Empress. When the powers that be that lead the Cumaea gets her hands on another piece of the mask, all hell seems to break loose.
There are still a lot of questions that I have for this series. What, exactly, was the Shaman-Empress want? What really happened at Constantine? What is going to happen with the intrigue between the Dawn and Dusk court? What the hell happened to Kippa?

Bullet Review:
The last volume was super focused on Maika and her companions, Kippa and Ren, and their journey to the island to discover what Maika's mother was doing. This one picks up a lot of threads that were left behind in volume 1 - a good thing, but also lending to a LOT of balls in the air. There's Maika's grandmother and aunt, Tuya, Colvin, a new party, Pontus, then Mother Superior, her assassins...the list of POV characters has grown a LOT making this story hella more convoluted.
But ya know, it was still enjoyable. Maika and Zinn have a fascinating relationship, and I love to see her growth and change and understanding of her history and abilities.

This series is so beautiful and complicated. I think I need to go back to the start and re-read it all as the story is so intricate I have become a little lost.
This one was a bit slow with a lot of repetitive battle scenes that didn’t really love the mystery forward much. It was a bit hard to feel invested in the characters when they are all kind of terrible killers. Still going to read book 4 though.
