Beginning in medias res, neither the reader nor the protagonist Maika is given any time to gather their thoughts. The aspects I've always most enjoyed about these comics are the world-building and the artwork: both of these feed into each other, to make the stories beautiful, gruesome and surprising. In this installment, the focus is often more on action than world-building or character exploration, which is to its detriment. Although I enjoyed the development of the story, I wish the pace had been just a little slower. I'm still hooked however, and looking forward to reading more (in a year or so).

Initial thoughts: This was another stellar action-packed volume of one of my favorite graphic novel series ever. As usual the artwork is to die for, and I'm really looking some of the myths being thrown in here. Some stories get a little more fleshed out, though it does get confusing on what's been happening with all the other factions involved in the story. I might have to reread the first two volumes again to see if I missed something.
That said, omgaaaaah I need the next volume now.

Secrets begin unfolding and I no longer feel like I'm lost in the plot half of the time (just a quarter) there's still so much to uncover I am hooked. I love the tentative understanding of each other Maika and the Monster are developing, I adore Kippa with all my heart and I want to learn so much more about the Warlord and about Ren's secrets
