Pretty good, I liked the plot and combat and character stuff more than I did in the second volume. Still kind of confused but there are a lot of pretty people doing cool things so I'm pleased.
Oh, I looooove these comics. I think this is my favorite series, by far. Everything about its universe, its mythology, and world building is so original and evocative.
Maika, Kippa, Ren, and of course, Maika's Monster-god make it into Pontus, the island that's been a refugee safe & neutral zone through the past war. It's been protected by a great Shield created and powered by none other than Moriko, Maika's mother. When the powers of the Known World close in on Pontus for Maika, it could mean another war - and unless Maika gets the Shield working, all of Pontus could suffer.
The plot moved a little too fast, I think, for me, because I just wanted more details and more time spent in so many places. But this is just sooo good. I really have nothing to say about this volume in general except that it's just as well-drawn and well thought out as the first two volumes.
If I can't say anything about it, let its many awards speak for me:
Best Writer Eisner Award 2018
Best Continuing Series Eisner Award 2018
Best Painter/Multimedia Artist Eisner Award 2018
Best Publication For Teens Eisner Award 2018
Best Cover Artist Eisner Award 2018
Best Graphic Story Hugo Award 2017
Best Comic/Graphic Novel British Fantasy Award 2017

Cool to have a new location. Also I love all the issues ending with the cat scholars.
In Volume 3 of Monstress, Maika Halfwolf (such a badass name) and the Old God Zinn are ever closer to finding out who, and what, Maika really is. The stakes are even higher than before and Maika, who really could do without all of the crap that’s been happening to her since she can remember, may or may not be ready for the truth. I, for one, am DYING to know what she is, why she’s so important and what happened at Constantine, a place that is mentioned many times in the graphic novels. Supported by Corvin, Master Ren and the ever-faithful Kippa, Maika’s journey is almost over. I think.
All I know is IF ANYTHING HAPPENS TO KIPPA I WILL BE BEYOND ANGRY. DO. NOT. TOUCH. MY. LITTLE. FOX!!! That is all.

The third chapter in the incredible Monstress series has me HOOKED. I cannot believe how much I am enjoying this story and characters; it is truly one of the best fantasy comic series I have read in a very long time. Liu and Takeda have created a universe that I hope continues for a long time, and makes me anxious to see where the story goes next, and the new things I’ll learn about this world.
This part introduces more political elements, as a great war is approaching and the story reflects real historic elements that I appreciated. It was interesting how the authors balanced different historical settings with fantasy to create a world that feels real from different perspectives. The dungeon adventure to search for the shield parts was incredible, and as always, Monstress’ art does an excelling job at wrapping everything up with incredible beauty.
Final Score: 85/100
