This book was an odd mixture of exactly what I expected and not at all what I was hoping for.

It's a pretty stereotypical teen romance revolving around miscommunication and an excess of drama! I originally liked the tried-and-true trope of "slowly falls in love with the shy boy friend rather than the hot guy she thinks she's into" but it quickly morphed into a foul taste in my mouth. Here's why:

The protagonist, Megan, is a major flirt. She's proud of it and it's part of her identity. I thought it was a kind of cool way to write a character since usually flirting is written off as being "slutty" or just unlikeable. However, there's a massive difference between casual flirting and cheating. Megan has a major revelation about a previous relationship where she finds out she was cheated on. It impacts her friendships, breaks her trust, and really creates chaos overall. HOWEVER - she then proceeds to heavily flirt with someone in a committed relationship (while she herself is dating someone else) and even goes so far as to kiss him and try to hook up with him... while they're both dating other people!!! Sure, she has moments of, "wow, this is probably a bad idea since he's taken already" but she never fully stops herself. It's just an obnoxious thought in the back of her mind. That shook me.

If someone has been hurt because of cheating, the likelihood of them asking someone else to cheat (or being a cheater) is really slim. It just caused me to be confused and in the long run, I didn't want any of the relationships to work out because they were all built on skeevy foundations.

There was a lot of potential for this book, but it definitely didn't live up to my expectations, which was a huge bummer. I really wanted to love it, but it really was just meh.
