This was so cool, I didn't expect to like it as much as I did ! The story was great, as was the style, and I loved how the dialogue was really believable ( I can't think of a better adjective for it !) One of the gangsters also looked a bit like my dad which I thought was cool too :•)

The only question that I have after reading this is, why? I'm not entirely certain what was to be gained from releasing this as a standalone book, it's slightly longer than a One Shot but comes in a premium format and at a price to match but it really is a vignette that would have been better suited as part of a larger anthology.
The story itself is okay, but it's so short that you get no real sense of any of the characters or their history minus a fairly cliché son of a gangster story. It's a shame I quite enjoyed Shalvey's work on Moon Knight and Injection.

read this with fair city on in the background which I find to be quite fitting
came for fullerton's artwork, specifically his fullerTHAN line quality and use of black, but stayed for shalvey's story, characters and funny one liners, and rebecca nalty's choice colours

Wanted to like it more than I did. I really love Gavin Fullerton’s art and Shalvey’s writing isn’t bad, I was just a bit underwhelmed.

A gritty and thoroughly Irish noir thriller, Bog Bodies has all the darkness, violence, and twists of the genre coupled with the rich character and pitch-black humor I've seen in other modern Irish writers. What begins as a seemingly simple story layers back on itself in unexpected ways, revealing the truth its own time, dancing on the edge of mystery, and carrying the reader through a striking tale of crime and humanity.

Short and realistic. When someone lives by crime, they live it in every moment and by its codes. One mistake can cost a life. It's a basic idea, but one that the story interestingly links to an older Irish history.
The bog bodies are very well preserved. But who are they? Why we they preserved? One theory is they were transgressors who were put on public ways as warnings. This idea pervades the story.
But the drawings... So, so good. Rich inks and bold colours. Strong big areas beside small details. It's absolutely on form.
