This book was very meh.

The premise was so interesting but it was inexplicably ruined by an over-drawn love-triangle, which was so obviously not a triangle. The author tried so hard to change the characters and convince the reader that Warner was the right man for Juliette. But she did too good of a job in setting him up the way she did. It was not successfully undone and the change or development of Adam and Juliette was not done convincingly at all. I really don't mind the love-triangle trope, but it needs to be done well. Unfortunately, the author set up an incredibly unhealthy relationship and I think this is an awful message to send to young girls. Warner was not excused from his actions and glorifying him just because he's hot doesn't make it any more comfortable to following this relationship.

Overall the characters were not well written. All the new characters we met in the previous novel played almost no- role other than to praise Juliette, to support Juliette, to be in awe of her new relationship. It was actually very ridiculous to read given what we know of this world (even if that's so little) and what these people have gone through.

The one thing I praised in the other two books -playing with format- is gone and reduces how interesting the book actually is to read. I'm a little sad about that.

The war and build up to the war was super underwhelming, rushed, and perhaps poorly planned. I honestly feel like she could have just written a romance book considering the dystopia was underutilized and underdeveloped.

That being said, it was again meh. If I read it as simply a love story, then sure. I guess there's the weird inherit interest in watching a girl get with the bad-boy who's sexy and misunderstood. For that, I give it a big ol' meh. At least it was more interesting than the war.
