This is the sixth gay-prince fantasy-romance in the Perilous Courts series. I've read and enjoyed all six books, and can report that this proved to be my second favorite (after book one, "Prince and Assassin," which I loved).
If there were thirty-six books in the series, I would likely read them all, because sometimes what I most want is an undemanding book with characters I like, where I can slip headfirst into a story, and know that there will be (spoiler warning?) a happy ending. As with the other books in the series, the perspective alternates between the two sides of the romance. I liked both main characters, Kavia and Lucien. I liked the relatively slow progression of their relationship. I liked the rats. I liked the young dragon. I enjoyed the guest appearances of leading characters from earlier books.
A pleasure. Four out of five spoilt-brat stars.
About my reviews: I try to review every book I read, including those that I don't end up enjoying. The reviews are not scholarly, but just indicate my reaction as a reader, reading being my addiction. I am miserly with 5-star reviews; 4 stars means I liked a book very much; 3 stars means I liked it; 2 stars means I didn't like it (though often the 2-star books are very popular with other readers and/or are by authors whose other work I've loved).
