“I picture that scared girl,
the bleeding painter
the jagged flesh
between them.
Sometimes I am the girl.
Sometimes I am the dripping blood.
But most often
I am the one offering up some unwanted mess
of my self
and calling it a gift.”

I didn’t know anything about this collection when I started it, I just thought the title was poetic. It came as no surprise that the writing inside was just as beautiful as the title. The wording, the imagery left me in awe.
Von Radics writes mostly about a past relationship, and not being treated right by their partner, and love. They’re not themes I can usually connect to personally in poetry, but the poems are absolutely brilliant and so real and honest that I found myself loving every line. There are so many poems that stood out and I wanna quote them all just so you can see how breathtaking they are. (“My mouth, so far from yours, I said I am afraid I will spend entire years trying not to need you. As if I wasn’t certain. As if this wasn’t my confession.”). Definitely one of my favorite poetry books of all time!
