Beautiful and miserable, all together not so hard of a read as you'd think.

I thought at the begging that this book was going to be pretty boring but I found myself reading nonstop, it was pretty intense and an enjoyable read.

One of the better and more realistic apocalyptic novels I have ever read. Very grim and monotone, and you could really believe that this is how this world would function. I loved the author's refusal to use names. I gotta say that I absolutely hated the ending though, and it somewhat spoiled it for me. For such a bleak, realistic, and hard-hitting book to have such a forced, unbelievable, and happy ending was just too out of place and silly. However, I would still easily put this above other works such as The Parable of The Sower and Station Eleven.

I love the way this book is written.

I know Viggo Mortensen plays the lead in the movie and he is who I visualize in my head as I read this novel - which is fine because there are no real, vivid descriptions of the characters......

my first Cormac McCarthy novel and I feared it would be too graphic or visual or just depressing......all in all, a great read thus far

Ok, you know how everyday meals are so ordinary and boring sometimes? Some books are like that as well. You read them because they make you laugh or think or cry or all of the above, but the bulk of the book is just ordinary; written in ordinary phrasing and cadence. Easily recognizable by the brain that is used to reading simple text.

The Road is like sitting down to a well prepared, rich, culinary feast. You eat and eat and eat and get to the end and realize maybe you ate too quickly because you were so enamored of it and perhaps weren't able to fully appreciate each and every morsel. You needed your Mom to say, "Slow down!".

A book worthy of a second, slower mastication once it has been eaten with fervor once.

Truly a work of art. And I don't say that about many books, if any at all.
