Just waiting for the day when I don't want to reread this again and again and sob every time

I get the point but also too depressing for me

This book is the two main characters trying to find enough food and water to survive in an apocalypse for 300 pages, with the occasional encounter with another survivor. It’s also the best piece of apocalypse media I’ve ever consumed.

Beautifully written and heartfelt story about a father and son traversing a desolate, post-apocalyptic landscape (the cause is left ambiguous), exploring what it means to be kind and “carry the fire” when humanity has nothing left.

I disagree with others about the story feeling repetitive. McCarthy’s writing is certainly unique but I found it elegant and well-paced, and am looking forward to reading his other books. And yes, this book is super bleak but it was also more hopeful than I expected.
adventurous dark sad medium-paced

Feel good book of the year.
