Holy racism Batman. My nostalgic journey with this series has come to an ABRUPT end.

Excuse me. I'll just stick with Babysitter's Club.

5 stars rated by my 7 year old… this book is definitely dated and I felt discomfort in reading the parts about finding Native American artifacts (as referred to in the book as “Indian” artifacts)

The way that book 3 is introduced at the end is rather awkward, but overall the book was enjoyable.

This book was less nostalgic for me and had more questionable content (easily edited on the fly), but N loved it and wants to keep going with the series.

To be honest, I found this a painful read aloud and would like to only give it 2 stars at best. You have to suspend all rationale thought and disbelief. You have to be curious to know every. single. meal. consumed by the kids. And you must maintain utmost patience through the clunky dialogue. But, (sigh............) my 6 year old was in love. And my other son adored it when he read it by himself in first or second grade. So I’m bumping up the stars because the target audience did, in fact, like the book. If you have read the book and want a good laugh, take a look at the first review on Goodreads (Meredith). Now that’s funny!

i believe the museum the children create in this book is the reason i have a hard time throwing away pretty leaves, rocks, or seashells. as a child, i was obsessed with a shelf of tiny little treasures in my bedroom and i'm pretty sure i was creating my own museum like the alden children. :)

thank goodness i didn't share that memory with my 7 year old as we read this book - he'd want to save even more outdoor items than he already does! :) what a sweet little book with a nice, mild mystery.
