Na knihu jsem se nechala nalákat v rámci společného čtení a vlastně nelituji. I když jsem neměla valná očekávání a s jejím přečtením jsem skutečně dlouho otálela, snad už jen proto, že se řadí mezi Young adult fantasy, v jejímž případě jsem né vždy zrovna nadšená, nakonec jsem byla celkem příjemně překvapená.
I když autorka dává prostor i romantické lince, příběhu to celkově na škodu není. Svět je originální, detailně promyšlený a propracovaný a to včetně systému jeho fungování. Co mě však poněkud překvapilo je, že autorka do něj čtenáře jednoduše vhodí a nechá čistě na něm, aby se naučil plavat a sám si jednotlivé souvislosti propojil a doplnil. Tento typ příběhu tak není pro každého a i otrlý čtenář fantasy, tak má minimálně do poloviny knihy pocit, že se v příběhu tak trochu neukotveně plácá.
Když se teď tedy za celým dějem zpětně otočím a zamyslím se nad ním, musím říct, že mě vlastně bavil a příběh se mi líbil, během četby jsem si však ale, příliš komfortně, nepřišla. To však nic nemění na tom, že mě kniha nalákala a já mám v plánu přečíst si, rozhodně, i ostatní díly.

Es war ein ziemliches Auf und Ab mit diesem (Hör)Buch und mir. Es gefiel mir, dass ich einfach so reingeworfen wurde in die Geschichte und die Welt dem Leser nicht wirklich „erklärt“ wird. Aber irgendwann begann es, sich zu ziehen. Gewisse Aspekte wurden ständig wiederholt: Ja, Hirka ist anders und kann nicht umarmen. Ja, Rime hasst seine adlige Herkunft und hat kein Interesse an den Machtspielen, die sie mit sich bringt. Und klar, Rime ist viel zu gut für Hirka. Nicht zu vergessen seine Wolfsaugen!
Bis dann aber endlich mal was passiert ist, war fast die Hälfte des Hörbuchs vorbei (insgesamt immerhin an die 11 Stunden wertvolle Lebenszeit). Dann aber war ich ganz gefangen von den Ereignissen. Zwischendurch gab es immer wieder einige Längen, aber das hat mich kaum gestört. Nur dass Hirka und Rime es nicht fertiggebracht haben, mal wirklich miteinander zu reden, hat mich dann doch des Öfteren etwas aufgeregt.
Trotzdem habe ich die Welt und die Charaktere liebgewonnen und möchte wissen, wie es weitergeht. Ob ich mir aber nochmal 18h Hörbuch „gönne“ oder lieber auf die Printausgabe aus der Bibliothek ausweiche, muss ich mir noch überlegen.

Wirklich unschön fand ich die Szene mit der versuchten Vergewaltigung im Kerker, die sehr ins Detail ging und meiner Meinung nach absolut nicht notwendig für die Geschichte war.Trotzdem habe ich die Welt und die Charaktere liebgewonnen und möchte wissen, wie es weitergeht. Ob ich mir aber nochmal 18h Hörbuch „gönne“ oder lieber auf die Printausgabe aus der Bibliothek ausweiche, muss ich mir noch überlegen.

This book is a good first part of a trilogy. It is a great experience and I will definetly read the next parts. The norse mythology and scenery described resonated within me as a Scandinavian. I'd definetly recommend

Odin's Child has a pretty interesting synopsis that sucked me in. So, yeah, I'll admit that I was pretty freaking excited to dive into it's pages. I was pumped for the mythology and fantasy things that were going to come my way. They did but this book and I just weren't connecting all the time.
I think the lack of chapters really bugged me. Okay, I know it did. Then there's the beginning. It was interesting and a bit heartbreaking at the same time. Once we got to know more about Hirka, Rime, and Vetle, well - honestly they were okay. Yeah they had destinies and stuff but I couldn't really connect with anyone. I tried, trust me I tried, but nothing was clicking.
Then there's the romance, adventure, challenges, and evil lurking every where. The romance had it's cute moments but some things that happened throughout it confused me. The adventure was entertaining with some weird and disgusting things alone the way. I could keep going on and on saying that this book had some good parts and others that were okay or boring.
In the end, I feel like if this had chapters and paced a bit better for me then I would be in love with the book.
