This book had a LOT of potential... it truly did... I mean, with the plotline and the whole set-up, the enemies to lovers forced proximity and everything, this could've been a god-tier book but it just didn't work out... and again I state for emphasis, this book was so full of wasted opportunities... two enemies forced to do a period film together where they have to do a sex scene?! I'm sorry what part of this plot is not an goldmine of potentially explosive romance? What a waste it turned out to be though...
the main characters, their chemistry, the side characters and their roles, the dialogue, the execution... in the end it just did not work AT ALL
PS: If you liked the premise of this book based on the blurb, go read Alexis Daria's You Had Me At Hola... it has a similar plot structure but actually slaps and does justice to the potential of the situation

dnf at 55% i TRIED!!! i swear i tried and yet every single character except joseph was utterly insufferable and downright toxic. joseph felt like he was only there as a comic relief side character and he was supposed to be the MMC. also, this was not a light and easy romcom like the cover makes it seem. which is completely fine, except it made jospeh seem so insanely out of place. the mother was an absolutely nightmare, the sister was incredibly selfish and careless, the father was a 60 year old with a string of ex wives 30 years his senior, and the brother was there so infrequently i forgot he existed and when he did make an appearance it was to say an annoying one liner. the FMC was a fucking headache. it feels like the author didnt know what to do with sloane. shes crushed bc she lost her job, her asshole ex broke up with her, her family is mean, and she? apologizes to her asshole mom? listens to her asshole exes album about her on repeat? fights her sisters battles? girl STAND THE FUCK UP!!! the ONLY person she stood up to was MMC and, while completely justified, was also needlessly harsh for him to be the ONLY ONE who gets that treatment. like the people in her life suck and its all fine. i absolutely cannot, i was bored, annoyed, or genuinely angry reading every word that i suffered through.
I really liked this one. (Have already started another book by this author to see why magic she’s spun after this.)
The author took two actors who knew each other before and put them together again in a way that allows us to see more of who they were, who they are now, and whether that’s enough for them to have any kind of relationship going forward (coworking team, friends, maybe more?).
Setting this up on a film set that’s flooded with the main character’s dynamic family (with their own baggage and delights) was perfect.
I genuinely enjoyed every character, watching every relationship, and waiting to see where everyone would end up in the end.
For fans of love stories with a behind-the-scenes plot like:
Right on Cue
Battle Royal
The True Love Experiment
Sadie on a Plate
If the Shoe Fits
