“We’re Musketeers. We are sisters in arms. We don’t let each other fall, and we never will.”

Let me introduce you to my most anticipated release of 2021 and one of my favorite reads of all time: ONE FOR ALL by Lillie Lainoff. I have been screaming about this book since I first knew of its existence and I almost died of excitement when I was approved for an ARC. Than you so much to NetGalley and the publishers for making my year with this review copy!⁣

ONE FOR ALL is the book I’ve been wishing for: a gender bent classic retelling with a chronically ill heroine! Let me say it again: AN OWNVOICES CLASSIC RETELLING ABOUT CHRONIC ILLNESS! Not only that, but it contains even more of my favorite things:⁣

- Swordfighting!!!⁣
- Found family⁣
- Powerful female relationships⁣
- Epic fight scenes⁣
- Wonderfully detailed historical setting⁣
- Did I mention the heroine is chronically ill? And never gets magically cured?⁣

I was terrified that this book wouldn’t live up to my expectations but I’m happy to say that it is just as wonderful and heartfelt as I could’ve wished! The portrayal of chronic illness was simply amazing. I found it deeply relatable, the kind of representation I’ve been longing for all my life.

I admit, I was a little disappointed with how the mystery played out, but it did end with one of the best fight scenes I’ve ever read.⁣ The romantic elements were also not completely satisfying to me. However, I absolutely loved the writing and the characters. ONE FOR ALL is a standalone read, but I’m ready for six sequels and a movie!

Long story short: this book is amazing and it deserves all the sword bouquets in the world. I need you all to add it to your TBR lists immediately! Watch out, in March of 2022 this book is going to rock your world!!!⁣

Thank you NetGalley and Macmillan Children's Publishing Group for the ARC of 'All for One' by Lillie Lainoff.
I can't wait to add this book to my library, and classroom library as well for those students reluctant to read the 700 page classic.

I was so excited when I looked at the description and saw that it was a gender switch retelling of 'The Three Musketeers'.
Growing up, 'Les Trois Mousquetaires' was one of my favorite books to have read to me, and eventually read on my own. For a few years when I was really little I even ran around with a stick, pretending it was a rapier.

Seeing the inner strength, and relationship between the sisters in arms Tania, Portia, Théa, and Aria made me so happy.
Théa said it best: "We don't let each other fall, and we never will."

So if women with rapiers fighting for justice, and espionage are your thing: this is the book to read.

"Tous pour un, un pour tous"

I really enjoyed this three musketeers retelling! Love the friendships and found family aspect of this book. Also enjoyed how the main characters were diverse and that the story was told from the perspective of a girl who lives with a chronic illness. I will say that the plot progressed quite slow but once it got to after the 60% mark it really started to progress and brought more intrigue. Highly recommend the audiobook, it was really great to listen to! Excited to read this author's upcoming books in the future.

This book does an excellent job of filling a gap in media with a great use of research to do so. Additionally, the overall vibes of this book are beautifully immersive. However, I found that the use of French dialogue to set the scene was irritating. It implies that what they’re speaking for the whole rest of the book is actually English or some super secret nth language and just doesn’t make sense. The rest of the vibes of the musketeers and France were great though so I can’t fault this too much. This is done particular well in regards to all of the different views of revolution which I thought were handled well. I also initially felt like the main character came off with a very YA/ fanfiction vibe. While this did improve throughout the book, I never felt like any of the characters really fully came into their own voices. I would have like to see them be more strongly characterised. There are also a few annoying historical inaccuracies that make the feminist discussion around these things feel skin deep. In regards to the plot, it was definitely fun but it never reached a great height. The twists were predictable and I found myself skim reading for a lot of this. Overall, a fun read but nothing amazing.
