General disclaimer if you’ve read other reviews by me and are noticing a pattern: You’re correct that I don’t really give starred reviews, I feel like a peasant and don’t like leaving them and most often, I will only leave them if I vehemently despised a book. Thus, no stars doesn’t indicate that the book wasn’t worthy of any starred system. It just means I enjoy most books for what they are, & I extract lessons from them all, even if the lesson is that I’m a ho for the smut, recognizing a genre/book/author is not for me, or confronting my own mommy/daddy issues lol. Everyone’s reading experiences are subjective, so I hope my reviews provide enough information to let you know if a book is for you or not. Happy reading! Find me on Instagram: @bookish.millennial

I loved this Three Musketeers retelling!!! Not only was the main character so intriguing to follow and to root for, but the entire cast of side characters were incredibly entertaining and an absolute blast in a glass! This group is a prime example of why found family is one of the most magical tropes both in fiction & IRL.
I do not have POTS so I can’t speak to that specific disability. However, as someone who has navigated other health issues (with zero answers from doctors) in the current/modern health care system, I can say that I felt for Tania, especially since no one had clear answers for what she was experiencing and for this to be in the 1600/1700s!!! Ahhh. To not have a name or official diagnosis can feel isolating and sometimes it can make you second-guess yourself (i.e. ‘Maybe it’s just stress. Maybe it’s not as bad as I’m making it out to be. Maybe it’ll just go away one day. Maybe I just need to push through.’)
I recognize it’s the bare minimum but I deeply appreciate representation of disabled folks where the storyline is not about “fixing” them (THEY ARE NOT BROKEN FFS STOP SAYING THIS), and it’s about them finding others who embrace them, as well as a journey of embracing themselves!
I know I say this all the time but I think it’d be wonderful to see this adapted on screen!

This was a very hit or miss book for me. While I really enjoyed the queer side characters, disability rep, and general concept of this book, I didn’t find the execution to be as great as I would’ve liked.
To start with, this book was just generally too long, too hard to get into, and kinda a slog to finish for me. While I wanted to know what happened I was continuously surprised by how many more pages there were and didn’t have as much interest as I would’ve wanted in finishing it meaning that it took longer to finish than I would’ve liked despite me enjoying the book and wanting to know what happened.
Additionally, while interesting, I didn’t love the way the romance(a) were handled.
I did love the character development and seeing the 4 musketeers together I found that to be really enjoyable.
However, in addition to my other issues with the pacing, length, and love interest(s), I also found the French used to not necessarily detract for me but also didn’t add anything, I found the spy plot line to be incredibly confusing at times, and I think the word dizzy started to become incredibly repetitive.
Overall while I enjoyed the story, this was a fairly middling book for me unfortunately.

I had really high hopes for this book, but was unfortunately disappointed. Having POTS myself, I was looking forward to reading about a strong young woman who is more than her chronic illness. I was irreparably distracted by the sheer amount of times that the word "dizzy" (in whatever tense) was used. Trust me, I get it. But it was used 124 times throughout the novel! The novel also didn't really pick up for me until about 1/3 of the way through. I felt like the romantic aspects of the story took away from the sisterhood relationships that Tania was building with her fellow Musketeers. I would have love more focus on that storyline and getting even more historical background for Portia, Thea, and Aria. 2/5 stars for me.
I have POTS so I wanted to like this, but it was really slow and hard to get into. The pointless and redundant French throughout made it especially difficult to get through. Overall the plot could have been a cute novella, but as is, it is far too long for what actually happens

There is POTS rep, two gay side characters, fencing, awesome characters and generally is amazing.
I will warn that a lot of it is hard to read, especially as a Disabled person just because of the constant reminders of ableism. It's really hard to read something that you use books to forget about.
Apart from that I highly recommend this book!

It was slow at times and most of the clues the girls found on the second half of the story confused me, but overall it was pretty good.

I PUT A LOT OF TIME INTO THIS BOOK. But it never really gave me anything in return like not much happened and when it did it was a bit underwhelming. I picked this up cause I love to see chronic illness representation in books but it just wasn’t my cup of tea.
