It felt like the text needed to go through a few more rounds of edits; so much over-description through similes and metaphors (there are some good ones, but they are overshadowed by the constant use of others) and constant rephrasing, made it a slow read (nothing wrong with slow books, but it was just so repetitive). Loved the premise, historical retelling/perspective, characters and their backgrounds and strong relationships, and realistic representation of chronic illness. Mara Wilson is a fantastic narrator.

Tania is known as the weak girl around town. She has dizzy spells that make others consider her a “sick girl” but she’s anything but that. She wants to be a strong, independent girl, just like her father is, as a former Musketeer. Her papa is murdered, leaving her mother and her alone. His dying wish is for Tania to attend L’Académie de Mariées, a finishing school. But the school is not what it seems, it’s a secret training school for female Musketeers. With her sister in arms by her side, Tania finally feels like she belongs. As she’s put on a mission, she realizes she has feelings for her target, but she’s torn between solving her papa’s murder and her duty, she has to make an important decision. This book was entertaining, though it started a bit slowly. I instantly loved Tania and was rooting for her to kick some butt and show the world who she truly was.
