OH MY GOD WHAAAAAT?!?
Okay so the first 200 pages of this book had me bored as shit (except gabby ma bae) and kinda pissed off to be honest but HOLY WOW AFTER THAT IT JUST TURNED INTO THIS WHIRLWIND OF BRILLIANCE??
Let's begin with the positives:
1. GABRIEL FML honestly he's such a beautiful character and he's so supportive and he accepts Nathan for all that he is and he deserves to be happy and safe and ughhhh
2. Marcus and Nathan's relationship like I'm all for it?? Marcus makes me irrationally happy considering the fact that he's a murdering maniac (the best murdering maniac).
3. Nesbitt hahahhahh diffusing the tension since the start of time.
4. Arran I mean come on whatta cutie
5. Did I mention Gabriel?
6. Nathan when he's being a complete badass
7. CAN WE ALL AGREE THAT MARCUS LOWKEY SHIPS GAB AND NATHAN
Things I hated:
1. Annalise
2. Nathan acting like a wimp in front of Annalise
3. Nathan taking Gabriel for granted LIKE SOMEONE KNOCK SOME SENSE INTO HIM UGH
4. annalise
5. Annalise expecting Nathan to change for her like bitch no he's perf
6. The Alliance members being mean to Marcus *protective mode on*

But yeah the last hundred pages upgraded this book from a 2 star read to a 4 star read and I wasn't even remotely considering the idea of picking up the next book but I GUESS I HAVE TO I MEAN CLIFFHANGER WOW.
(also gabriel)(need him to be happy)(pls)

Good beginning, boring middle, and very slappy end. Wasn’t my favourite, but still good.

+ The audiobook is incredible. Carl Prekopp narrates Nathan perfectly, everything feels so real and intense: the hurt, the anger, the vulnerability. Also the sound effects are great (even though at first I thought my headphones were broken xD)

+ I love that Nathan and Gabriel are a possibility and that Nathan never questions his sexuality. It's only about feelings and never about "Oh my god, am I gay?"

+ Nathan and his character development. I just love this boy, he's so gritty and sarcastic but also loyal and kind and just wants to do the right thing.

+ All the new characters are great. Van (how do you spell that?) is such a unique person and Nesbit and his bickering with Nathan is hilarious.

+ Marcus returns. I'm so glad he actually cares about Nathan.

+ The dialogues. A lot of them made me laugh, like the flirting between Nathan and Annalise, but there were also serious conversations about killing and morals.

+ Violence is treated seriously. There are a lot of fights and a lot of people are killed. This topic is not handled lightly and I love it. Killing actually has an impact on the characters.

+ That ending! wahaöeifhöaiehfsfüie! I'm so... wow. Marcus dying ;__; and then Nathan eating his heart which was epic and tragic at the same time and then that last sentence... he's gonna hunt Annalise down o.o

The second book in the trilogy fulfills its role of immersing the reader more in the world and divulging more about the characters, while at the same time leaving you hungry for more. I read this aloud to my 16-year old son, and we both give it 4 stars. It probably had more romantic bits than my son wanted (especially with me reading it to him), but he tended to make light-hearted comments and jokes throughout, increasing the enjoyment for us both.

We're going to read the third in the series!

I really enjoy second books that can keep up with the first. Half bad was so good and I kept putting off reading the sequel because I was afraid of being let down and I’m not sure why I did that. This book was down and dirty, and added new characters, while giving me all the feels. I’m really going to give it a go at doing a small review without spoilers for those of you whom haven’t read this trilogy before.

Nathan’s character is one of the strongest yet one of the most pigheaded I have ever come across. I want to just make him some soup and tell him it will all be okay, yet I know it won’t. He is legitimately bad ass but only lets so many people get close to him. I adore everything about him, and have absolutely no idea why.

Gabriel is probably the only person in the whole wide world that can love Nathan for who he is always and forever. Their love for one another as best friends is really pure. Gabriel’s character as a whole is kind of amazing; he is one of those people that once he is aligned with you he will always have your back. I’m loving how kind and caring he can be yet strong and determined the next minute.

Marcus wasn’t as bad as everyone thought was he? Marcus sort of really cared for Nathan in his own way. He couldn’t communicate in so many words how he felt all the time. However he did show it in other ways. I wanted more of him in this book.

Van and Nesbitt are really great additions into this book, I wasn’t sure at first but I really enjoy them both. Maybe Nesbitt more than Van, however both add that certain kind of spark you didn’t know was missing.

I love how Sally Green constantly keeps us guessing like you never really know who you can trust. Can you ever really trust anyone in this war? Are allies really allies? Are enemies really enemies? I’m so excited to dive into the third and final book. I really hope it doesn’t disappoint me.

4/5 stars:

This second book from the Half Bad trilogy is as riveting and interesting as the first one, though I do have to say I was kind of expecting it to be even better than the first and it didn't meet those expectations.

Still, the story progresses quickly and the pace of the book feels natural and engaging, taking careful consideration into character development. I think there was much potential in the first book in terms of characters, motivations and developments and this second book proved it to me. I think in the case of Half Bad, Nathan was the only character that was really 3 dimensional and the rest of them were still understudied and not too flexed out but by this book every single character feels realer and more complex.

My enjoyment of this book was hindered by anything that had to do with Nathan's and Annalise's relationship. It felt dull and so useless. It's true that it plays sometimes an important role in the image of himself that Nathan possesses so it can be argued that it is important for his character but it just feels so meek and uninteresting.

As it was the case in the first book I still very much love Gabriel and he's my favorite character. I spend my time struggling between just wanting him and Nathan to finally get together and end up together and feeling like Nathan doesn't deserve Gabriel.

I can't wait to pick up the conclusion to this trilogy as soon as I can.
