This book wasn't the easiest to follow on audio but I still liked it. I thought it became more attention grabbing at the last 100 pages or so. Wish they discussed more about finding the balloon. They touch on it in the epilogue but I wish we heard the story more in detail. Also, I was shocked that her Mom never came back in the picture. The love story was a little predictable but I was shocked to learn the Elliot made the mixtapes. Over all pretty good book.

It's been a while since I read something that made me so emotional! This one was soo good!🎈⁣

Emmie Blue was just sixteen when she released a balloon with her name and email address attached, after some traumatic events. And surprisingly it travels many miles and reaches the shores of France where another teen - Lucas Moreau finds it and they end up striking a friendship. Now at thirty, Emmie has been waiting for Lucas to confess his love for her during their combined birthday celebration dinner but instead, he reveals that he's engaged and asks her to be his best man 🥲 Emmie agrees because she wants the best for him and though she doesn't want their friendship to change, things don't always remain the same, do they? And when she decides to start searching for her father with some help from Lucas' brother Eliot, she discovers many things about herself - and others - along the way.⁣

At first glance, the description might make you think that it's a story about unrequited love but nothing could be further from the reality of that. My heart broke for Emmie and I wanted to reach in through the book and give her a hug, but she had so much inner strength and resilience too. The writing was absolutely amazing and through the flashbacks, we get to see young Emmie meeting the Moreau family and finally finding a home for herself. Both of the brothers are important to her as their friendship quite literally saved her in many ways. It was hard not to empathize with her and it was easy to understand why she valued her friendship with Lucas so much. Her friendship with her coworkers - Rosie and Fox brings out a more relaxed side of her and I loved watching her grow and become more confident in herself. There were so many humorous and light-hearted moments in the story and I loved how this book had me feeling everything while keeping things balanced! The romance was definitely the cherry on the top and that epilogue was amazing!❣️ I should probably stop gushing about this one but I'll probably be thinking about this for days to come!🎈

I DNF this book at 25%.

I was really excited when this book was sent to me because it has such positive reviews! I was quickly disappointed. Maybe it’s just me but I was confused about a lot of factors from the beginning. Is the setting in England or France? Or both? How are Emmie and Lucas absolute best friends, but he doesn’t tell her about getting back with an ex and getting engaged? It just seemed so odd. To top it off, non of the characters are likeable. Emmie is just torturing herself instead of standing up for herself, Lucas is supposed to be her best friend but he makes comments she doesn’t like, leaves her hanging and out of the most important decision of her life? Also, he kind of leads her on. Her mom is horrible, her friends seem average and it goes on and on. I couldn’t even grasp what this story was about and I couldn’t keep forcing myself to read to figure it out. The back and forth from past to present to try to piece things together along with the engagement, Emmie’s overwhelming sadness and her family issues is one big mess. Thanks to NetGalley for giving me a chance to review this book honestly.

This was a cute, solid romance. It kind of gave me Emily Henry vibes because the characters were so flushed out and each had a distinct voice. Rosie, Fox, and Louise were definitely the best part of the book because they offered the most compelling takes. The main characters were pretty textbook and the plot was somewhat predictable but in a good way. It is sweet and cozy and overall an enjoyable book.

When Emmie was 16, she released a red ballon with a note tied to it telling her biggest secret. The note included her email address. Emmie receives an email from Lucas, who found the balloon on the coast of France. The two strike up a friendship and end up as best friends. They exchange emails, mix tapes, and meet up. Emmie sees in Lucas the life that she wants to have.

Now, Emmie Blue is 30 and life isn't quite what she thought it would be. She was laid off from her job and now works at a waitressing job. She is single, has a pretty much non-existent relationship with her free-spirited mom, doesn't know WHO her dad is, and rents a room from an older woman. Her life is not going how she thought it would. She is secretly in love with Lucas and is crushed when he tells her he is getting married and would like for her to be his "best man".

This ends up being the wake up call that Emmie needs. She realizes her life has been so focused on her friendship with Lucas that she has let other things fall aside. She slowly begins to build up herself and reach out to others in her life.

This was a charming story that was the nice feel-good story I needed during this quarantine. Emmie is an flawed protagonist with a lot of self esteem issues. It is nice to see her grow and become more sure of herself. You can't help but root for her.

I won a copy of this book in a goodreads giveaway. Thank you to the publisher!

I feel so bad for Emmie. I also feel soo bad for Elliot cause what do you mean you just watch from a corner while the girl you like that you're sending CDs to, actually mistook Balloon Boy for your brother and fall for him instead of you? Like... Huh? HUUUUUUHHHHHH?????🥺 SENDING HUGS TO BB ELLIOT. I WANT A MAN LIKE HIM🙇🏻‍♀️🍀✨️

Sometimes I take a chance on a newer book without reading the reviews and just go off the description. Dear Emmie Blue was one of those books. It was an Audible deal of the day a while back, so I decided to take a chance.

First off, some trigger warnings: There’s sexual assault, victim blaming, dysfunctional parents, cheating on someone, gaslighting, slut shaming, the manipulations of another’s emotions

Dear Emmie Blue is a very emotional book. The pain and suffering as well as the longing just oozes off the page. Despite having a satisfactory conclusion, you’ve really got to be in the right head space to read or listen to this book. Emmie Blue is so sad for most of the book, and the emotions are so strong and heavy. She’s hanging on to the past, a painful past, and it is affecting her decisions in the present.

Despite the heavy nature of the book, there’s moments of light, too. At it’s heart, the book is a romantic comedy wrapped around all the darkness. She’s desperately in love with Lucas, the boy who found her balloon all those years ago. Despite how close the two have become over the past fourteen years, he doesn’t see her that way. He wants her to be “best woman” at his wedding, and that just crushes Emmie.

Emmie doesn’t want to lose her friendship with Lucas and tries to be supportive. She realizes she has to forge her own path and finds an unexpected ally in Lucas’ brother, Elliott. There are many setbacks along the way, but ultimately, Emmie Blue learns to rely on her resilience and abilities to become a stronger person.
