I LOVED Rosemary Clement-Moore's other novel Texas Gothic, but I have to say I was really disappointed with this book. The premise is great, a former ballerina whose career has ended. As a result, she's shipped off to a spooky town in Alabama. Sounds great, right? I thought so. Until I actually started to read it.
The exposition is over one hundred pages, with nothing truly happening. Sylvie was a character who is obsessed with repeating the same thoughts over and over. She, and the ever-mentioned dog Gigi, are boring. It's hard to build up any interest in the story; it feels as though nothing will ever happen.
I couldn't bring myself to enjoy this book, and I had to stop before the half-way mark.
I had high hopes, but ended up really disappointed.

This book was amazing. The book has a way of making your mind confused. The main character, Sylvie struggles between what is real and what is fake. I have to admit that the first few chapters were quite boring but they get better, also don't skip any pages if you're that kind of person since the first few chapters will make sense later on. I rate this a 5, this book really confused my mind and I loved that. The confusing love triangle also makes it extremely worth it as well. 100% recommend.

Love love love Rosemary Clement-Moore. She is like a modern-day Barbara Michaels for YA (I really can't think of anything better than that--it is high praise coming from me). Sassy heroine? Check. Multiple swoony suitors? Check. Well-researched locales and occupations? Check. Heroine who has more on her mind than a man? Check! A bonus is that the location mentioned in the book is based on a real place in my home state and I am going to try to visit this summer.

A fun gothic romance for teens. Takes a little while to warm up, but I loved the supernatural elements.

The writing style was pretty irritating but the story was really good so it kind of made up for it.

Literally my most favorite book that I have read this year. Well in 2012.... but it was seriously amazing. I don't really have words.

The Splendour Falls is another title that has dipped me into the murky and magical world of the South. Secrets, spells and family legacies are aspects that immediately capture my attention and this book was no different. However, at 512 pages, much of this intrigued was diluted and negatively impacted the pacing of the book. At times I was wondering how much more I could read about a dog barking or performing weird antics.

The strength of this novel is the mystery that swirls around Sylvie's family and how it plays into the current marina being proposed in the town. There's plenty to keep you interested between Sylvie's personal growth, the well being of her family's property to her interactions with two handsome guys. Characterisation is relatively strong though I do wish that the guys that are battling over her had been fleshed out more.

Rosemary Clement-Moore was an author who's work I was unfamiliar with prior to this book and I would definitely read more of her titles.
