Polar: An Eye for an Eye is a collection of three parts. It is the 2nd Polar trade paperback. First part is Polar: An Eye for an Eye, that is subtitled A Tale of Revenge in Three Parts. And yes, it is uncondensed revenge in almost every panel after the short introduction where the main character interacts with Polar, who only appears in that intro. A mix of a Tarentino movie and reminiscent of Lady Snowblood, it is minimalist, hyperviolent, and gory. And yet, very satisfying. It is easy to sympathize with the woman seeking her revenge.

Second story is All for One, unrelated to the prior story and featuring another character called Black Kaiser. It is subtitled A Spy Fiction Tale. Whereas Polar is black and white with only blood having the only color, All for One is more conventional but still highly stylized. It has a Shamaylian twist at the end.

Third story is Cops. Very minimalist and using no dialogue, it shows the story of a cop setting up people to be shot by him. Very strange and very short – only 4 pages.

The trade paperback ends with the Polar: An Eye for an Eye Sketchbook. It contains commentary on drafts of panels and characters.

Victor Santos writes and illustrates.
