Though I enjoyed reading this, I’m a bit disappointed by the length of this book. I feel like everything happened way too quickly and at the same time way too slow, the book was a bit too short to my liking and I would have love to dwell more into the story. I felt like the romance part took some part away as well, Henry having way too much impact to my liking on Sara’s life and overall choices, at times she don’t want to get involved with him due to his ex and the second after that she’s all loveydovey again. I did enjoy Sara’s story though, as woman trying to make a place for herself in a world full of men and navigating as well her personal relationship, seeing the evolution with her parents was soothing. I was a bit disappointed as well with the whole Bull presentation where she tries to get investors, we know that is big deal, yet when she delivered her speech and everything it didn’t feel like much ? In a sense I hoped for more for this book but I still enjoyed reading it.

1. 𝐅𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐲 - This story beautifully weaves the relationships of both family and found family together. It shows the trials and tribulations of both and how even the most dire of feelings can be healed and reawakened.

2. 𝐒𝐞𝐱𝐢𝐬𝐦 - Sometimes it is easy to sit back in life and not really think about how much prejudice still continues in the world. Sara encounters both racism and sexism within these pages, but she sure doesn’t let the perpetrators get away with it. She is strong and outspoken and will make you cheer for her on every page.

3. 𝐔𝐧𝐫𝐞𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐋𝐨𝐯𝐞 - Harry is that one guy from high school that Sara has always been in love with and he holds the bar for any relationship she has ever had. When they reconnect, we get to see their friendship rekindle…and maybe a whole lot more!

4. 𝐒𝐢𝐥𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐋𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 - When Sara’s app accidentally sends out her drunken messages, she is mortified. And later, when she learns more about that mishap, she is angry. However, when all is said and done, her ‘One Last Word’ was just what was needed in so many aspects of her life.

5. 𝐓𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 - Dream big. Fight for what you believe in. Don’t bow down. Don’t take the easy way out….There are so many wins in this story. Sara is a tenacious woman that I think many of us can relate with and/or hope to emulate in life.

Sara Chae has stagnated, working long hours in her job and unable to break out of middle management. She leaves to dedicate her time to her app, One Last Word, which triggers upon the death of the user to send out personal messages to various designated recipients. But when her app triggers accidentally due to the death of a totally different Sara Chae, the repercussions are immediate; messages that she drunkenly wrote with her younger sister are sent to her parents, her former best friend, and her high school crush. As she attempts to work on the relationship with her parents and reconnects with her high school flame, Harry Shim, she applies for a venture capital membership... only to find out that Harry is her mentor. As work picks up, chaos develops on the personal front, but Sara manages that fine line of balance as she navigates both.

Sharp dialogue with an awkward but likeable female main character, Sara is unapologetically book-smart (not so much relationship-wise, though). There are a number of upsetting microaggressions, but these are purposeful and par for the course. Sara deals with them well; this isn't one of those stories where those moments are shrugged off with a "boys will be boys" type of mentality. I did not love the character of Harry; it often felt as though Sara was too ready to jump to forgive him, because she had liked him for so long. He didn't really have to work for their friendship/relationship at all, it seemed, and some effort beyond scarfing down various dishes would have been nice.
